Georg Dobler

ava

Georg Dobler was born in 1952 in Creussen, Germany. He began his training as a goldsmith at the Berufsfachschule für Goldschmiedekunst and later co-founded a studio for contemporary jewelry with the goldsmith Winfried Krüger. Dobler earned his master certificate in goldsmithing from Pforzheim and came to international prominence in the early ’80s creating what were to become his iconic geometric and deconstructivist forms. This was followed by a focus on more naturalistic elements, casting structures and forms from nature and incorporating large, facetted stones. Since 2002, Dobler has been a Professor at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Hildesheim, Germany and has had his work exhibited internationally. His work can be found in major museum collections including Metropolitan Museum of Art, Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum, Museum of Arts and Design, The Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, The Israel Museum of Art, Jerusalem, Victoria & Albert Museum, London and others, too numerous to mention.
