Collective Design Fair

Exhibition @ Skylight Clarkson Square, NYC: Sep. 13 – May. 17, 2015
Eva Eisler. Souls. Lighting, 2014

Gallery Loupe is proud to be participating in Collective Design Fair, located at Skylight Clarkson Square in New York City. In its third year, this stellar design fair will display the best in modern and contemporary decorative art and design.

This year we will be featuring new work by Prague artist Eva Eisler that centers on her award-winning chandelier series, “SOULS.” Accompanying them are necklaces of blown glass, wood, and metal elements found in the archives of Preciosa Lighting, the Czech company that produced the lamps, along with brooches of layered wood, and necklaces strung from hand-carved wood and hand-faceted crystal beads.

Also featured will be Attai Chen, originally from Jerusalem and now based outside of Munich. He will be represented by new necklaces and brooches of densely layered, scored, and colored paper, as well as assemblage works from his 2014 solo exhibition at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art. A solo exhibition of his work will follow at Gallery Loupe, Montclair NJ, May 20 – June 14.

Misha Kahn, known for zany furniture and objects made from detritus layered within urethane resin or amorphous, hand-sewn vinyl sacks filled with poured concrete, will be represented by voluminous, riotously colored jewelry.

Contemporary American master Bruce Metcalf will show his latest work – brooches constructed from repurposed plastic bits – a departure from earlier expressions.

German goldsmith Peter Bauhuis is joining us for the first time, with distinctive jewelry cast from his own alloys. Dutch maker Evert Nijland continues his personal interpretations of ancient archetypes with “Rhyton” – a classical object used for libation rituals – in the form of a majestic, oxidized silver horse into which glass has been blown to line the metalwork and then crescendo into a flared spout.

Additionally, there will be jewelry by Annamaria Zanella, CHP…?, Doris Betz, Jennifer Trask, Laura Deakin, Melanie Isverding, Markéta Kratochvílová, Matt Lambert, Peter Hoogeboom, Robert Baines, Karin Roy Andersson, and Kiff Slemmons, who will participate in “PAST LIVES: The Nostalgia Narrative in Contemporary Jewelry Design,” a panel discussion to be led by Lindsey Pollock, editor-in-chief of Art in America, Saturday May 16, 2015 at 11:30am.
