Robert continues his engagement with the idea of jewellery as evidence of a construct of cultural history which confuses myth and reality, as a metaphor for an imagined, subversive version of what might have been. His highly finished work is characterized above all by superb craftsmanship.’—Dr. Gerard Vaughan

Robert Baines has profoundly shaped Australian jewellery, object-making and international historical scholarship. His works challenge our conception of the world as much as they delight with their technical brilliance. Baines is an exhibiting artist-goldsmith and his work is held in many prestigious collections across the globe, including The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Musee des Arts Dé coratifs, Paris; Schmuckmuseum, Pforzheim; Victoria and Albert Museum, London; Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe, Hamburg; and the National Gallery of Australia. An emeritus professor at RMIT University, Baines also teaches gold and silversmithing.
