Rian de Jong

ava

The peripatetic Rian de Jong divides her time between her home town of Amsterdam, the Netherlands and the rest of the world, which she sails to in a house boat, sometimes remaining at an exotic locale for several years. In fact, place and the processes of necessity inform her diverse practice. She is notable for incorporating elements found during her travels with rough, electroformed copper and semi-precious stones, fabricating brooches, rings and necklaces within a tiny shower stall on board her sloop. A graduate of the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam, de Jong has shown internationally for thirty years, including Galerie Ra in Amsterdam, Ornamenta 1 in Pforzheim, and Schmuck in Munich. Her work is represented internationally in many collections, including the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam; Schmuckmuseum, Pforzheim; Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; and Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, Montreal. A gold, pebble, and copper ring is in the private collection of Qrian de Jongueen Beatrix of the Netherlands.
