Using a mixture of natural and synthetic materials, Australian jeweler Laura Deakin explores life in all its forms — environment, experience, relationships, and memory. She is the recipient of several international awards, including 1st Prize, BKV Prize for Young Applied Artists from the Bavarian Crafts Council, Munich; Bavarian State Prize for Emerging Designers at the New Museum for Art and Design, Nuremburg; and Honorable Mention at Cheongju International Craft Biennale, South Korea. Deakin was also included in the prestigious exhibition, Schmuck, in Munich in 2009, ’11, and ‘14. Her work is in the collections of die Neue Sammlung, Munich and Galerie Marzee, Nijmegen, the Netherlands. She holds a Diploma of Visual Arts in Photography and Sculpture from RMIT Tafe, Melbourne; Bachelor of Applied Arts in Metals and Jewellery, along with an Honors Degree in Fine Arts, from Monash University, Melbourne; as well as a graduate degree from Akademie der Bildenden Künste, Munich.
