Aminata Conteh

ava

Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Aminata Conteh is Metalsmith whose practice hybridizes the histories and traditions of Metalsmithing & Jewelry with basketry weaving. Her work draws inspiration from the collapsing histories that exist between her lived experience as a first generation American and her Sierra Leonan lineage.

Actively contributing to the field, Conteh received a BFA in Metalsmithing and Jewelry from Maine College of Art & Design and she is the recipient of a 2021 Wingate Lamar Fellowship from the Center for Craft in Asheville, North Carolina.
