Matthew Lambert

Jeweler Matt Lambert's facility is with not only metalsmithing, ceramics, and printmaking, but also art history, psychology, and American studies, apparent in his efforts to connect his pieces with people on both an observational and participatory level. As he states: "It is in [the] interaction of the piece as well as its engagement with the public and the private as a fetish that allows for the object to be experienced," an essential goal of Lambert's complex practice. The Raw series – circularly woven necklaces made from laser-cut, hand-dyed leather – illustrate his transformative beliefs regarding gender, sexuality, and hegemony. These are necklpieces that cut through rank and identity, wearable objects for all. Lambert holds a MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art; he is a Summa Cum Laude graduate of Wayne State University, from which he received both a BFA in metalsmithing and BA in psychology (Cum Laude). He has been included in numerous international solo and group exhibitions, and his jewelry is in several important private collections as well as the Rotasa Collection Trust and Wayne State University Collection.
